mv.NET:
Heads up on Version 4!
BlueFinity International
is pleased to announce the general availability of the
latest version of its extensive toolset designed for
creating Microsoft .NET-based applications requiring access
to MultiValue databases: mv.NET Version 4.
The main thrust of Version 4.0 is to extend support for newer
o/s platforms and .NET frameworks along with enhanced support for
various foreign (i.e. non-English) language-based Windows
installations.
The major new features of version
4.0 include:
Support for Visual Studio 2008 The Visual Studio integration components of mv.NET have been ported
to Visual Studio 2008. Support for Visual Studio 2005 is still
available and, therefore, there are 2 versions of the CIDSetup.exe:
CIDSetupVS2005.exe CIDSetupVS2008.exe
The VS2005 setup routine installs the Visual Studio 2005 integration
components along with mv.NET assemblies targeted at .NET framework
2.0
The VS2008 setup routine installs
the Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 integration components
along with mv.NET assemblies targeted at .NET framework 3.5
.NET Framework Specific
Installation Routines
As well as 2 versions of the CID setup routine, there are 2 separate
versions of the other mv.NET setup files:
SRDKSetup2.0.exe
SRDKSetup3.5.exe
CRDKSetup2.0.exe
CRDKSetup3.5.exe
The names of these setup routines
reflect the version of the .NET framework at which they are
targeted.
Support for 64 bit Windows
platforms
Version 4.0 introduces support for all 64 bit flavors of Windows
platforms. Most of the mv.NET components have been built so as to
allow them to run within the 64 bit CLR. Only those that, by
necessity, have to call 3rd party 32 bit libraries are
built as 32 bit-only assemblies.
Extended Multinational Support
Support for Windows installations running in various high-order bit
sensitive language modes (for example Russian) has been added in
version 4.0. Support for U2 NLS is also included.
Connection Management
Performance Enhancement
The connection management within mv.NET has been optimized to reduce
the connection/session allocation overhead. This results in even
quicker session allocation performance for client applications.
Socket Connectivity Option for
D3
Version 4.0 adds an extra connection type (D3ODBC) for D3
databases. This option utilizes the same low-level socket-based
connectivity used by the D3 ODBC driver to provide improved data
throughput rates between client and database server.
SSIS
Integration Component
Being released at the same time as the mv.NET Version 4.0 launch is
a SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) component which provides
complete integration of the mv.NET ADO.NET provider with the SSIS
environment. This allows drag-and-drop creation of standard SSIS
packages within the SSIS design studio, providing seamless transfer
of data between MultiValue databases and SQL. Please note that this
SSIS component is a separately chargeable product to mv.NET. Its
official product name is "mv.SSIS".
