BlueFinity welcomed attendees from all over the
globe to its inaugural Developers Conference on May 24-25 at
the Miami Beach Resort & Spa in Florida. This conference
was
designed to meet the needs of those new to
mv.NET,
the world class Microsoft .NET development and deployment
product for all the major MultiValue databases, and
Reporting Services Data Connector (RSDC)
for Microsoft Reporting Services solutions
as well as
those who are looking for an in-depth technical look
at the advanced functionality.
After a Welcome
Dinner on Thursday May 24, the sessions began in earnest on
Friday morning. David Cooper, Lead Developer at
BlueFinity International, began with a
High
Level Technical Introduction to the benefits and rich
feature-set of each of the BlueFinity products. During this
session, attendees learned how to access MV resident data and programs from within .NET
applications using both ADO.NET compliant and native data
access libraries and to maintain dictionary definitions and Edit/compile/catalog
MV BASIC programs from within the Visual Studio
environment. Cooper demonstrated how to build application interfaces quickly using advanced Data
binding and how to utilize Microsoft's Reporting Services product to generate
advanced reports from MV data.
Next up was BlueFinity Developer
Steve Sartain's
Visual Studio Integration session
detailing
how the integration of mv.NET
within Visual Studio can increase development productivity.
Attendees
learned how to
utilize
these capabilities and gained
an understanding of the way in
which BlueFinity's VS.NET integration is being
refined to add further business benefits.
BlueFinity have an exciting roadmap for the development of
both additional features for their existing product range
and the introduction of brand-new, innovative products.
In the Product Roadmap
session, Cooper explained what is available right now and what will be
coming soon...including .NET fw 3.0, AJAX, Vista and 64-bit
support! Plenty of time was allowed for questions and
answers between conference delegates and developers.
After a delicious lunch in the pool-front conservatory,
Cooper
gave attendees
the low-down on a variety of technical tips and insights
for those developers charged with the task of linking MultiValue
data in with Web applications in a
Technical Session
for Web Developers. During
this session, attendees learned how to take advantage of mv.NET's
advanced features in order to handle efficient and scaleable state management,
rapid session pooling and data binding for fast interface creation.
Automatic Ajax integration was demonstrated showing how to give web applications a
desktop application feel.

In an mv.NET Case Study session presented by Drew Conboy of
Drexel Management Services, attendees saw how two very
different customers have used mv.NET to assist them in the
development of their innovative applications. Ranging from
one client's need to provide their customers with simple
web data access to another client's need for a complete
online order entry application - mv.NET and Visual
Studio provided a powerful combination for the development of
web applications.

After a quick sugar-fix with cookies, coffee and sodas,
Cooper explained how easy it is to develop MultiValue linked applications with the BlueFinity product range
in a the technical session aimed at
Smart-Client
Developers. This session
covered the more advanced features and capabilities of mv.NET
when used to develop smart (rich) client applications.
Topics such as Visual Studio Integration, ADO.NET access and
advanced data binding were discussed and attendees learned how to utilize mv.NET's
fetch-on demand data retrieval capabilities and monitor database-resident events.
Dictionary-based data maintenance (associated mv group
aware) and server-side code monitoring and debugging tools
were also demonstrated.
After the final session, many conference delegates retired
to the oceanfront, poolside bar to chat about the day's
events and to plan their evening in fun-filled South
Florida.
Plans are already underway for the next event. A
regional show will take place in France this Fall followed
by another BlueFinity Developers Conference on the USA West
Coast in two years time. Keep

TESTIMONIAL
Schalk de
Klerk, Managing Director of OpenIT
Solutions
in South Africa:
"In what is possibly a
world-first for the MultiValue community, BlueFinity has put
together a memorable mv.NET User Conference in Miami Beach,
Florida on May 25th. I say world-first because
never before has the MultiValue community had a .NET
development tool which was functional, easy to use and
progressive in its approach - and it works, too!
Hearing from the developers
themselves was really reassuring. Knowing that the product
is alive and well in a vibrant community keen to embrace the
product makes end users very happy. To enlighten us even
more, real-life case studies were presented by developers
whose applications are operationally deployed.
A great time was had by all
and many relationships formed will be cemented over the next
few years - I am sure lasting friendships were born over the
many beers consumed afterwards!
With such a start,
BlueFinity can look forward to a very bright future -
we look forward with anticipation to the next conference
in France!"
